Investing in People
At one point in my career, I was responsible for leading and supporting more than 60 safety professionals working across a wide range of projects and environments. For many of them, meaningful mentorship and leadership support had been limited before we started working together. Some were skeptical at first, which I understood, but over time they realized something important about me: I keep my word.
I showed up. I visited their projects regularly, spent time with them in the field, listened to their concerns, helped guide them through difficult situations, and supported their professional growth any way I could. I genuinely cared about them, not just as safety professionals, but as people trying to grow, provide for their families, and build meaningful careers.
What means the most to me now is that many of those relationships still exist years later. I still hear from people who tell me our time working together helped shape their careers and gave them confidence in themselves as leaders. Many of them have gone on to become strong leaders themselves and are now mentoring and supporting others the same way someone once invested in them.
Watching people grow, succeed, and help others succeed has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding parts of my career.
